Restaurant Perro Viejo

The restaurant is developed throughout the entirety of a historic building—distributed across a ground floor, first floor, second floor, and a top-floor penthouse/tower (castillete)—located in Plazuela de San Juan de Dios, in the very heart of Málaga. Since the property is protected under heritage regulations, the intervention carries out a comprehensive rehabilitation focused on strictly maintaining its original typological unity. The preservation criteria prioritize respecting the exterior facade and the central courtyard, which acts as the main historic backbone of the entire architectural ensemble.

The functional layout of the gastronomic program places the main kitchen on the ground floor, while the upper levels are dedicated to dining spaces through various individual rooms. The design of these independent dining areas follows a unified common thread that pays homage to the pre-existing elements of the building and local tradition. The interior atmosphere is qualified by conserving its original wooden structural frames (forjados de madera) and treating the walls with a traditional white finish, architectural solutions that are complemented by a natural Mediterranean-style decoration.
