House in Castilla St

The project involves the general renovation and extension of an existing single-family house between party walls, located in one of the historic neighborhoods of Seville. This traditional courtyard house is subject to heritage protection regulations that require the complete preservation of the facade, the central courtyard, the first complete structural bay, and the original roof type. The primary challenge of the intervention lies in integrating a contemporary residential program and increasing the usable floor area while strictly respecting the protected historical elements.

The architectural strategy focuses on preserving the essence of traditional Andalusian courtyard houses, adapting both the spatial distribution and the materiality to the pre-existing fabric. The property features two independent entrances from the public street, separating pedestrian access from vehicular access. Upon entering the house, the entire program is articulated perimetrally around a spectacular central courtyard, which accommodates the open stairs and galleries that connect, light, and naturally ventilate the different levels of the building.

The functional layout organizes the residential program in an ascending order according to privacy and use. The ground floor houses the day rooms, grouping the living room, dining room, kitchen, and a guest toilet directly connected to the central courtyard core. The first floor is dedicated to the night areas, containing the main bedrooms and bathrooms. Finally, the top floor, resulting from the extension, concentrates the leisure areas and a solarium linked to the outdoor decks.
